Experiment No . 5 ( B.Sc. 1 Semester Physics Project file )

 Experiment No. 5

To determine the height of wire by Sertant-

Object

            To determine the height of building by Sextant .

Apparatus Required

                        Sextant measuring tape , chalk.

Formula Used

                        Where h1 is the height of building above the eye level mark d , is the distance between the two points of observation on ground θ2 is the angular elevation of object at first or nearest point of observation θ1 is the angular elevation of object at the second or farthest point of observation .

                                                                                H = h1 + h2

H is the total height of distant object from the ground h2 is the height of mark from the ground h1 is the height of building a the eye level (mark)

Calculation

Result

            The height of the second flour of building is 11.22m.

Precautions

            The scale should be vertical.

            The enter city of two images should be same.

            The height of referernce mark and axis of telescope should be the same.
